Gayatri Mantra – Mother of Vedas

Have there been times when you have felt incredibly dull?

Hasn’t it happened to you that you just don’t feel like doing anything? Even your ability to think is hampered. Right?

There is a reason behind this behavior.

Our body and mind are very closely related. Bodily impurities cause bouts of disturbance in the working of tissues. And this includes the brain as well.

The resulting effect is ‘जडत्व’ (Jadatva), or inability to act or think about anything productive. The person loses the desire to perform all the duties.

What happens when the person shuns away all the duties?

No work.

Therefore, no money. Therefore, no food / basic needs. Therefore, bad health. And the cycle repeats until a quick and painful death is the only hope of release.

This is a hopeless condition, and the results are disastrous. When you want to get out of this mire, you can rely on a powerful Mantra, known as Gayatri Mantra.

This can bestow proper understanding, restores your intellect and guides you to do and think the right things in pursuit of your worldly duties.

What is this Gayatri Mantra?

To know about the Gayatri Mantra, you should first know about the Goddess Gayatri. She is the feminine version of the origin of light (Savitaa).

She is visualized as having five beautiful faces and ten hands, sitting on a lotus. In these hands, she carries the signs of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.

This Avatar symbolizes purity and effulgence.

The five faces of Gayatri represent five ‘Koshas’ (or stores), which are ‘Annamaya Kosh’, ‘Praanamaya Kosh’, ‘Manomaya Kosh’, ‘Vidyanamay Kosh’ and ‘Anandamay Kosh’.

The five right hands represent divine benefits, and the left five hands represent earthly benefits. The lotus represents cheerfulness and beneficence or charity.

To please this Goddess, who is the ultimate creator, we chant the Gayatri Mantra.

Like the sun, this Mantra is self-illuminating which includes all three ‘Lokas’ – ‘Bhu Lok’, ‘Antariksh Lok’, and ‘Swarg Lok’, with all the relevant deities. Here it is:

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः |

Om BhurbhuvahSvah

तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं, भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि |

Tatsaviturvarenyam, Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi

धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात ||

Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat

How does it work?

It is actually the worship of the creator of time. It gives all good qualities, best health, long life strength, effulgence and prosperity.

How so?

It is evident from the fact that with a healthy mind and body, most of us are productive during the day, when the sun is up in the sky.

The sun’s rays kill many germs, enlighten the entire world, provide heat and instigate the plants kingdom to create nutrition via photosynthesis, this Mantra destroys all sins and diseases, obstacles, poverty and provides sound health, long life and prosperity.

By chanting Gayatri Mantra, Shri Ram could achieve victory over Raavan. The son of Shri Krishna, whose name was Saamb, cured his leukoderma with the help of this Hymn.

Pandit Madan Mohan Maalaviya and Swaami Vidyaaranya achieved incredible power from this Gayatri Mantra.

These are just a few examples. In an experiment in USA, a scientist named ‘Howard D. Stangle’ collected all the Mantras in the world and counted the sound waves emerging out of them.

Gayatri Mantra could emit 2,10,000 sound waves per second and was proved to be the supreme in all the Mantras.

Similarly in Japan, an experiment was performed in an air-tight, glass chamber, in a dark place.

A small girl was asked to sit and chant. After some time, her profile or outline became bright and the aura was visible in the dark.

It was proved that by chanting this Mantra, light rays are attracted to that person and wrap the body.

So how do I chant Gayatri Mantra?

It is to be chanted 10, 12, 108 or 24,00,000 times, at which point a Gayatri Purashcharan is performed. It gives the ‘Saadhaka’ innumerable boons.

The 24 words of this Mantra affect 24 different organs of your body. So if there is a defect in any organ, put a stress on the corresponding word while chanting to repair it.

  • If you want to get rid of diabetes, use ‘Om’ twice and chant this Mantra 21 times in a minute.
  • Similarly, if you want to sharpen your intellect and get rid of brain-related diseases, use ‘Om’ in the beginning and at the end as well, to chant 12 times in one minute. If you add ‘Om’ five times after each word in the beginning, all heart diseases will vanish.
  • In this way, we can repair our internal problems in our body and mind. Once these are synchronized, we get the inspiration to perform our worldly duties.

It means, we take care of our loved ones, earn more wealth and achieve happiness, which is our ultimate goal anyway!
